Our professor in International Marketing thought of this last-minute assignment before we end the semester–come up with a video of an elevator pitch with the following instructions:
Your task is to create a 60–90 second elevator pitch video for an international marketing expansion. You’ll present a product or service you wish to introduce into a non-English-speaking market, with a strong focus on local adaptation, strategy, and customer connection. Your pitch should be strategic, persuasive, and culturally informed — just like a real-world pitch to international investors, local partners, or a global leadership team.
Instructions
Step 1: Choose a Product or Service Select a real or fictional product/service that could be expanded internationally. Preferably choose one not already prominent in your chosen market.
Step 2: Choose a Target Market Pick one non-English-speaking country as your entry point. Consider cultural, economic, and behavioral aspects that affect marketing strategy.
Step 3: Craft Your Pitch Write a script and rehearse it to stay within 60–90 seconds. Your pitch should include: Introduction – What is the product and why does it matter? Target Market – Which country are you targeting and why? Cultural Insight – What specific local adaptation are you making (product, message, platform, etc.)? Marketing Hook – What’s your unique approach to win this market? Call to Action – End with a compelling ask (e.g., “Let’s take this product global.”)
Step 4: Record Your Pitch Video format: MP4, MOV, or uploaded via private YouTube/Google Drive link. No slides required, but you may use visual aids or props if desired. You may read from a script, but eye contact and confident delivery are encouraged.
Step 5: Submit Your Video Upload your video via the MS Teams platform by the deadline. The videos will be watched and evaluated in class together. If you submit early and your video makes it to the class watching, you will receive bonus points. If not, you will get base points based on the quality of your pitch.
Here’s my final output. It was presented to the class, and the professor expressed that he was impressed with it. Yey!
Post Script: Yes, I enrolled for a master’s degree in Marketing Business Management at Uniwersytet Vizja in Warsaw, Poland. I’m officially and literally on Learning Louella mode right now. Will write a blog about my journey soon.
